Twitter has brokered a new deal with Google that will see tweets become much more searchable.

Set to roll out in the first half of the year, tweets will become visible to Google from the moment they’re posted, as reported by Bloomberg.

This is because Twitter is giving the search engine giant direct access to Twitter’s endless stream of microblogging data.

It’s a wide stream too, as the Twitter domain currently caters for some 284 million monthly active users.

Until now, Google had to manually (think of that term loosely) crawl through Twitter to find new information, which would then be relayed to its search engine.

Now, however, information will be immediately available, making Twitter-sired news much more valuable for media organisations.

It’s also likely to turn Twitter into a veritable SEO battleground, and could see a resurgence of hashtags so media firms’ tweets get pride of place at the top of search rankings.

Engineers from both Twitter and Google are already working on the new system, although there’s no definitive date for the move just yet.

Twitter is due to reveal its quarterly earnings later today, and will likely touch on the new deal during the earnings call.
