An advertisement in the latest edition of the Metro has confirmed a PS4 UK release date for this year.
The full page advertisement in the Metro May 24 edition lists a PS4 UK release date for some time in 2013.
Sony’s next-generation console has a full-page ad dedicated to it in the free London tabloid today, which lists that the PS4 is “coming 2013.”
“Now is the time. The World’s greatest players are going to entertain, create and amaze on the ultimate stage,” reads the ad. “This year a new generation will push the boundaries of play and share in moments of wonder. This year players will become legends.”
Sony had already listed a loose PS4 release date for “holidays 2013”, but has yet to officially confirm that the next-gen console would launch in multiple regions before the end of this year. Originally, rumour suggested that only Japanese and US markets would receive the PS4 this year, with the UK and other regions having to wait until the turn of next year.
In April, the Executive Vice President of Strategy Business and Brand Development at GameStop, Michael Hogan said “we know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013”. This Metro ad seems to confirm the same.
The PS4 was unveiled at a dedicated Sony event in February, revealing the next-gen console will play host to an architecture that makes it more akin to a high-end gaming PC than a traditional console.
With an eight-core x86-64 AMD Jaguar CPU with 8GB of GDDR5 RAM and a GPU capable of reaching 1.84 teraFLOPS, the PS4 will be a powerful gaming console.
Sony expects to ship 16 million PS4 consoles by the end of this year, and if the Metro ad is correct, a global launch would certainly help towards that goal.
