Google was unhapped with the ad-free YouTube app for Windows Phone
Tech heavyweights Microsoft and Google have patched up their differences and have begun working together on a new YouTube app for Windows Phone.
Google reacted angrily to Microsoft's unauthorised efforts to create a YouTube app for its smartphone platform earlier this month, demanding it be removed so advertisements could be added.
Microsoft promptly added the ability for advertisements to be displayed and that gesture seems to have encouraged Google to cut its rival some slack and finally join forces for an official app.
On Friday, Google issued a statement claiming the companies had found common ground and that the new an official YouTube app for Windows Phone would be coming in the next few weeks.
Microsoft said: "Microsoft and YouTube are working together to update the new YouTube for Windows Phone app to enable compliance with YouTube’s API terms of service, including enabling ads, in the coming weeks."
Google had previously demand that Microsoft completely remove the YouTube app from the Windows Store, but Redmond's willingness to comply seems to have softened the stance at Mountain View.
Google has yet to comment.
