It looks like the Sony Xperia Z4 has been given an early debut via Geekbench, with new test results showing off possible specs for the handset.
A benchmark read-out for a mystery Sony smartphone was uploaded on February 9 at 15:43, and looks assured to be Sony’s next flagship blower (via PhoneArena).
The device is tagged up under the model number ‘78YB16RC98PW62B1’, which we can only assume will be condensed to ‘Z4’ come the eventual post-MWC release date.
So what exactly did the benchmark reveal? For starters, the device was running Android 5.0.2.
That’s Google’s latest Android Lollipop OS, a software package still unreleased on the firm’s current flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z3.
What’s more, the device also appeared to be running an octa-core processor clocked in at 1.55GHz.
The chip was listed as ‘msm8994’, which we already know is the codename for Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 810 system-on-a-chip.
This supports previous speculation that the Sony Xperia Z4 will ship with the new chip, which will provide the handset with Cat 9 LTE support, improved battery life, a built-in killswitch, and 64-bit architecture.

The benchmark also revealed the device would carry 2822MB memory, signalling a 3GB RAM module – no surprises there.
Other details about the handset remain thin on the ground, with the Geekbench page failing to out anything particularly revolutionary about the upcoming device.
