Never run out of juice again

We've had smartphones, smart homes and smart luggage, so why not smart backpacks?

AMPL promises to protect and charge your gadgets on the go. You can control the charge using the app, so you don't even need to open it.

Every pocket has its own USB port, plus there's a smartphone charging-holster on the shoulder strap. That means you can charge six devices while you travel. The bag is water-resistant, which is handy during British summertime, and shock absorbers keep your gear safe and sound.

It will charge a laptop too, though you will need the optional LaptopBoost battery.

It comes with a 5,000mAh battery, which the firm claims will recharge a smartphone three times. Though it depends which phone. The HTC One (M8), for example, has a 2,600mAh battery, so would only be juiced up nearly twice.

The LaptopBoost additional battery has 14,900mAh, which is a lot of power.

According to the company, its batteries have adaptive fast charging tech from Qnovo. This monitors the condition of the battery and adjusts the charging rate accordingly, resulting in faster, more efficient charging. We can't verify this without testing it.

The batteries work together in the bag, effectively pooling their resources so you don't have to worry about one running down. You can take them out and use them as standalone chargers too.

A security alert will send you a notification if someone makes off with your bag, or you leave it behind.

It's passed its $125,000 funding goal. If you're interested, you can pick one up for $399 (£262). It should ship in September.
