Coming to the silver screen

We've had one Steve Jobs film already, but this is the one we've been waiting for. Directed by Danny Boyle with a script by Aaron Sorkin based on Walter Isaacson's biography, filming has started, and the cast list has been announced.

Christian Bale was approached for the title role, but Michael Fassbender steps into the turtle neck and New Balance trainers. Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen, Jeff Daniels, Katherine Waterston and Michael Stuhlbarg also star, Slash Film reports.

The film will be called Steve Jobs. As previously reported, it will take place backstage at three major product launches – the original Mac, the NEXT computer and the iMac. It will also use flashbacks, including one shot at Jobs' real home in Los Altos.

Winslet plays Joanna Hoffman, former marketing chief of Macintosh, while Rogen plays Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Former Apple CEO John Sculley is played by Jeff Daniels.

The cast also includes Katherine Waterston as Chrisann Brennan, Jobs' ex-girlfriend, and Michael Stuhlberg as Andy Hertzfeld, an original member of the Apple Macintosh development team.

Quite a line-up. Also on board are Perla Haney-Jardine, Ripley Sobo, Mackenzie Moss, Sarah Snook and Adam Shapiro.

The 2013 film Jobs saw Ashton Kutcher play Apple's mercurial founder, but it was panned by the critics (and Steve Wozniak).

There's no word on a release date for Steve Jobs, but it shouldn't be too far off. Universal bought the rights to the film from Sony last year.
