Owners of the HTC One (M8) in Europe are now getting their hands on the very latest version of Android, the Taiwanese company revealed on Wednesday.

The announcement (via GSM Arena) came courtesy of senior HTC communications bod Jeff Gordon, who said the Android 5.0 Lollipop update would be hitting the different territories in waves throughout the day.

He tweeted: “HTC One (M8) owners in Europe, have a sweet tooth this morning? Check your software updates!

The update comes within HTC’s self-imposed 90-day deadline to get Lollipop to HTC One (M8) users after Google made the final version of the new operating system available to manufacturers.

The update brings a new lock screen, Google’s new Material Design language and a new multitasking view, which allows users to switch between apps by swiping through cards.

Users will need 780MB of free space in order to complete the update. Gordon told users who’re yet to see the update to keep checking the Software Updates section within the Settings menu on their Android phone.

News of the update comes as HTC prepares to launch the next version of its flagship HTC One stable of handsets.

The company’s HTC One (M9) device, which continues to appear in various leaks, is likely to be announced at the company’s press event at MWC on March 1. All indications suggest it will be the company’s first handset to run Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.
