Which would you choose?

Samsung has announced the UK release date for the Galaxy A3 and A5. Both handsets will hit the shelves on February 12 – that's two weeks tomorrow. They're available to pre-order from today.

The phones will be available from "selected high street retailers" like Carphone Warehouse, as well as networks like EE and O2.

Both handsets come clad in metal, which is Samsung's material of choice at the moment. Many think this means the Galaxy S6 will have a metal body. Samsung's previous flagships like the S5 have had plastic bodies, which has made them feel a bit cheap.

The A5 has the same 6.7mm slim body as the Galaxy Alpha, which was Samsung's first metal handset. There's a 5-inch 720p Super AMOLED screen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera and 16GB of internal storage. Unlike the Alpha, it has a microSD card slot.

The A3 is slightly lower specced. The 4.5-inch screen has a 960x540-pixel resolution, the camera is 8 megapixels and it only has 1GB of RAM. The body is slightly thicker at 6.9mm, but it has the same processor and microSD slot.

Both run Android 4.4 KitKat, are 4G and have 5-megapixel front-facing cameras.

A couple of weeks ago, Samsung lifted the lid on the daddy bear of the family, the Galaxy A7. It sports a 5.5-inch display, though it has the same resolution as the A5's. It's slimmer, at just 6.3mm, and packs a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 chip. There's also 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and a microSD card slot.

There's no word on when the A7 will hit these shores.
