Nintendo has had a good Q3, reporting strong profits over the Christmas period - but it won't be enough to rescue a difficult year.
The Kyoto-based video games giant has reported 271,521 billion yen (roughly £1.5 billion) of revenue for its third quarter, with 45.2 billion yen (£252 million) of net profit.
This came from solid Wii U sales of 1.91 million and strong Nintendo 3DS sales of 4.99 million - a considerable increase on the second quarter in both cases.
Software sales were also strong, with Super Smash Brothers selling 3.19 on Wii U and 6.19 million on 3DS, while Mario Kart 8 for the Wii U sold 4.77 million copies.
The ever-dependable Pokémon series continues to bring home the bacon, too. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire for 3DS sold a combined 9.35 million copies.
However, despite these encouraging figures, Nintendo does not believe that it will meet its projected profit figure for the year.

The company had predicted a 40 billion yen profit come the end of its financial year in March 2015, but it has now halved that estimated figure to 20 billion yen (£112 million).
One issue appears to be that the introduction of new models of the 3DS in Japan and the US (but not yet Europe) have not stimulated sales of the handheld platform sufficiently.
As The Verge points out, this adjustment also suggests that the company is expecting to sustain a loss of 10 billion yen (£56 million) in its final quarter.
