EA ditches Tiger Woods in favour PGA Tour release

EA has confirmed that it will launch a new golf title in 2015, with EA Sports PGA Tour to see the publisher end its partnership with Tiger Woods.

Having spent over a decade releasing Tiger Woods titled golf offerings EA will this year not launch a golf-themed game. That is set to change next year however, with EA Sports PGA Tour unveiled at E3 2014 ahead of a spring 2015 release.

The first sports title to be built around the Frostbite 3 engine, EA Sports PGA Tour will land within the next 12 months and move away from the true-to-life golf offerings such as the upcoming Golf Club.

Described by the developer as “golf without limits,” PGA Tour will see gamers able to compete across standard 18 hole courses as well as “Extreme fantasy courses”.

If you’re not totally sure what this means, the game’s teaser trailer showed a level where gamers had to hit from tee to pin over an exploding warship which just happened to have careered into the otherwise pristine fairway.

EA Sports PGA Tour is just one of a number of new sports titles detailed by the developer during its E3 conference.

With new FIFA 15 features showcased during the keynote, the company also discussed the upcoming NHL 15 and American Football themed Madden 15.
