Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda Wii U will be set in an open world landscape, marking a total deviation from previous Zelda games.

Although the game hasn't yet been given an official title ahead of its launch in 2015, Nintendo has provided some key details as to how this Zelda game will be very unique in comparison to the other games in the series.

The Wii U Legend of Zelda will allow you to "explore the new world of Zelda" without boundaries, allowing you to complete quests and missions without having to follow a set structure.

"As far as what you can do with such a vast field to explore, as soon as those boundaries are removed, it means you can enter any area from any direction," said Nintendo during its E3 2014 Nintendo Direct. "The puzzle solving starts as soon as you start to think about where you want to go."

"This is a clean break break from the conventions of past games in the Zelda series, where you had to follow a set path and play through the scenario in the right order."

Basically if you can see a location, you'll be able to get there just by walking to it. As we saw in the demo during the Nintendo Direct, the new Zelda Wii U world is pretty peaceful and stunning, but it will still feature the powerful enemies you'd previously find in Nintendo games.

"It is a Zelda game after all so strong enemies will certainly appear, even in this setting. Powerful enemies appearing in such a peaceful world is one of the defining features of the Zelda series."

The game will launch in 2015 on the Wii U. Hopefully we'll find out what the game is called later this year.
