Brutal Mortal Kombat X gameplay footage shown at E3 2014

Sony has shown off the first Mortal Kombat X gameplay footage during its E3 2014 press conference.

From the outset, it is obvious that the game will offer fantastic lighting and water effet to take advantage of the PS4’s hardware.

Taking the series to a whole new level of violence, it’s possible to see how your punches and other attacks smash the skulls and bones of your opponents in devastating cut scenes.

Battle arenas include a piratical, sea-based one with wooden jetty and another is set in the dark woods, with moonlight seeping between tree boughs for an atmospheric twist.

The new trailer also revealed that characters will be able to use content within the arena environment to use in battles.

The trailer, as you can see below, even shows off two new Mortal Kombat characters. There’s a lady who controls bees and another slightly horrific-looking chap who seems to have some sort of minion on his back.

Mortal Kombat X was announced earlier this month ahead of the E3 2014 demo with a special reveal trailer.

It will be available some time in 2015 for the Xbox One, PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
