Shape Up to blend fitness and gaming fun

Shape Up

Shape Up's piano steps mini-game

Ubisoft has partnered up with Microsoft to launch Shape Up, a brand new fitness title that turns your workout into a game.

With Shape Up, Ubisoft states that "your work out will finally become an epic game" and it will usher in "a new era of fitness games".

Working with the Xbox One's Kinect motion gaming peripheral, Shape Up puts you into the game, but make sure that working out becomes a lot more gaming orientated.

"We took the key fitness moves and turned them into a gaming workout", said Ubisoft. "We can prove that you will do more crunches and push-ups if your workout becomes a game".

Aiming to make fitness more immersive, you can use the Kinect to record your performance and send it to your friends, or even challenge yourself to a rematch later on.

During Ubisoft's E3 2014 press conference, the publisher showcases two fitness mini-games that you can take part in when playing Shape Up.

One of the workouts is all about steps and features a four key piano with corresponding colours. If you've not seen it yet, just think Guitar Hero for your feet with a fitness theme. This mini-game makes you step in time with the music and gives you a workout with the aim of beating a high score.

The second shown off is a push-up centric challenge. The more push-ups you do, the more stuff you’ll get stacked up on your back in the game. Basically, the bigger the object you're currently shouldering, the better you’re doing. It all seems a bit juvenile but it puts a fun, gaming twist on your work out.

Shape Up will be available exclusively for the Xbox One around Christmas time.
