Clear images of the iPhone 6 rear panel appear to have leaked onto the internet over the weekend.
We’ve already seen a number of dubious or just plain blurry snaps supposedly pertaining to Apple’s forthcoming smartphone revamp. These latest images are some of the clearest and most convincing yet.
They’re sourced, as ever, from a Chinese website, in keeping with the location of Apple’s production efforts.
They show a by now familiar iPhone 6 form factor, which is significantly larger than the iPhone 5S and closer to a modern Android phone.
The rear panel appears to be of an all-metal construction, with none of the glass strips that overlay the camera module and opposite edge on Apple’s last two smartphone efforts.
It’s been noted that the cut-out for the camera flash is circular rather than oval, as in the iPhone 5S. This has led some to speculate that Apple might be ready to ditch or at least modify its dual-flash True Tone system, which brought a more natural look to dark shots that required the flash.
As Apple only introduced the system with the iPhone 5S, where it was actually pretty effective, we’d lean towards a modified system.
This batch of shots also shows the sides of the iPhone 6 rear panel (though a little less clearly), revealing some elongated volume controls and space for the usual mute switch. They also appear to back-up earlier reports that the power switch has been relocated to the right hand side of the device.
This latter detail is there because, as has been widely reported, Apple is looking to up the screen size for the iPhone 6. We’re expecting a 4.7-inch display, with a 5.5-inch version possibly following at some later point.
