Is this the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active mini?
The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active mini has been spotted in an FCC filing as well as the Chinese equivalent, suggesting the device is near launch.
A budget version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active has been filed with the FCC and the Chinese equivalent Tenaa, both with the model number Samsung GT-I8580 and pictures that show a smaller version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.
Both the filings line up with the specs for the Galaxy S4 Active mini leaked in some GFXBench benchmarks.
According to the leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active mini should retain the waterproof and dustproof qualities of its larger sibling, but just have lower specs and a smaller screen.
The Galaxy S4 Active mini is said to have a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and an Adreno 3.5 GPU.
The original S4 Active had a 1.9GHz quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.
Powered by a 1,900mAh battery, the Galaxy S4 Active mini will have a 4.65-inch display with an 800 x 480p resolution. This resolution is a sharp contrast from the 5-inch 1080 x 1920p resolution display of the full sized Samsung Galaxy S4 Active.
The mini version will have a 5-megapixel camera in the rear, with an additional 0.3-megapixel front-facing snapper for video calling and selfies.
Underneath the latest Samsung TouchWiz UI is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and the mini has the same physical key set-up as the S4 Active.
Samsung has already released the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini, a reduced spec and price version of the flagship Samsung Galaxy S4, so it isn’t too far a stretch of the imagination to see an S4 Active mini on the market.
However, we’re not quite sure what the market would be for such a device.
