iPhone 6 could bring more mass to the table
Apple’s iPhone 6 handset - expected to launch next autumn - will finally offer fans a 5-inch display, according to reports emanating from Japan on Tuesday.
According to Japanese Apple magazine Mac Fan (via Macotakara), the company is still experimenting with various screen sizes, but has already decided one of the handsets will pack a 1080p, 5-inch Retina Display.
According to the magazine, the display will have a resolution of 1920 x 1080 and a pixel density of 440ppi, which would bring it in line with some of the top Android contenders. The report also claims the panel will be manufactured by LG, a long time Apple partner.
Mac Fan reckons Apple’s device will be as thin as possible, allowing the company to market the iPhone 6 as operable with one hand.
Cupertino has resisted pressure in the last couple of years to offer screen sizes comparable to Android rivals like Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG, all of which have enjoyed success closer to the 5-inch marker.
The iPhone 5 saw Apple jump from the now-tiny-by-comparison 3.5-inch displays to the 4-inches which were retained with the recent iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C launches.
With the bi-annual cycle promising more significant hardware updates in 2014, it would make sense for the iPhone to fill a little more pocket space. Today’s reports claim the iPhone 6 will arrive in September 2014, but then that’s no surprise.
