The upcoming LG smartwatch may be called the LG G Health according to a trademark filed by the South Korean company.
LG has filed a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a device called the G Health, which is described as a “watchband” capable of communication with other devices.
The patent listing doesn’t give much away about the functionality or features of the LG smartwatch, but it will seemingly follow in the footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Sony SmartWatch 2.
“Watchbands that communicate data to personal digital assistants, smartphones, and personal computers through internet websites and other computer and electronic communication networks,” the patent category reads.
Judging by the name alone, we expect LG’s smartwatch will have a stronger health focus than the current alternatives, perhaps going more along the lines of the Nike FuelBand or FitBit Flex.
The LG G Health smartwatch could have a curved display similar to the recently unveiled LG G Flex.
Earlier this month, LG Chem unveiled new battery technology that can and will be used with curved screen devices like smartwatches.
The company revealed it is already working on not only curved batteries but also bendable cable batteries.
“Cable Battery is applied to IT devices that are bendable, wearable and even be tied into a knot. Because it has been designed to use low electricity, the battery does not heat up although the user may operate the device for a long time. Moreover, the waterproof features of the battery allow it to be used in wearable gadgets regardless of flexible figures, from necklace types to smart watches.”
LG confirmed it is working on a smartwatch earlier this year, but failed to offer any details as to when it will launch.
