Infinity Ward has confirmed it has “no plans at this time” to make a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 title.
With all of its focus currently on Call of Duty: Ghosts, there are no plans in the foreseeable future for a Modern Warfare 4 title from Infinity Ward.
Speaking to OXM, Infinity Ward Community Manager Tina Palacios stated that Modern Warfare was not a title that will be produced by the developer anytime soon.
“With the storyline, we knew that we wanted to end the Modern Warfare franchise, and we wanted to go in a new direction”, explained Palacios. “I can say that our focus and only focus is on Ghosts right now as it is, and we have no other plans at this time.”
It seems that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will be the last of the Modern Warfare series at this moment, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is gone forever.
Call of Duty: Ghosts, which will be released on November 5, take a lot of inspiration from the Modern Warfare franchise though.
“When we creating Ghosts, we really got inspired by Ghost from Modern Warfare 2, just how he looks.”
The cover art for Call of Duty: Ghosts and the premise behind the squad is based loosely on Simon “Ghost” Riley from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
“It made sense for these soldiers we have in Ghosts who want to hide their identities would have the same masks and face paint. I think it would be safe for me to say that just knowing the characters from our previous games didn’t have a backstory, that’s what really pushed us forward. We think we need to really establish that.”
If you pre-order Call of Duty: Ghosts you’ll get access to the exclusive dynamic multiplayer map entitled Free Fall and be able to utilise Simon “Ghost” Riley from MW2 as a playable multiplayer character.
