Samsung has issued a lengthy official response to a stress test video showing its new Galaxy S6 Edge bending under similar pressure as the iPhone 6 Plus.
A video posted by gadget warranty firm SquareTrade on Friday threatened to spark another ‘Bendgate’ controversy ahead of the release of Samsung’s new, curved-edge flagship device.
During the stress test, the handset bent under the same 110lbs of pressure as the previously tested iPhone 6 Plus. Apple has been widely criticised and mocked by rivals (including Samsung), following reports the 5.5-inch device was morphing just through sitting in the pockets of users.
Keen to avoid egg on its face, Samsung has come out swinging, claiming its phones would rarely be exposed to that level of pressure. It also contested SquareTrade’s assessment, explaining the test ignores the stronger rear-side of the S6 Edge. As thus, Samsung is asking the company to repeat the test and open the results up to the public.
In its statement, the company wrote: “All our devices are put rigorous high-quality validation tests before they are delivered to consumers.
“These tests include various conditions, such as dropping, bending, and breakage. And we are confident that all our smartphones are not bendable under daily usage.”

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge was well received at its launch at MWC 2015 last month and that good feeling has translated into a recent TrustedReviews test.
The handset received a 9/10 score for its peerless cameras, innovative design, build quality and, as our reviewer put it, "monsterous performance." Ironically the handset was marked down for "just for show" curved display, which is its hallmark.
