Ahead of the upcoming PS4 release date, Sony has confirmed that the console’s new DualShock 4 controller will work with Windows PCs.
Although all elements of the upcoming DualShock 4 peripheral will not be compatible for PC gamers, Shuhei Yoshida, President of Worldwide Studio for Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed that the controller will offer “basic functions” across platforms.
Responding to Twitter based questions of the DualShock 4’s cross compatibility, Yoshida stated that “the analogue sticks and buttons will work just fine.”
Further pressed on whether or not the DualShock 4’s PC options will be available as default direct from the box, Yoshida took to his personal Twitter account to declare “For basic functions, yes.” He added that eager gamers would have to wait for a “post-launch field report” to find out the full extent of DualShock 4’s PC compatibility.
Yoshida’s comments come just weeks ahead of the eagerly awaited PS4 release date. With the next-gen Sony console set to hit UK retailers one week after its upcoming rival, the Xbox One, on November 29, the console will go head-to-head with Microsoft’s 360 follow-on.
Although the PS4 release date will be held after the Xbox One’s arrival, Sony has gained the upper hand on pricing and early PS4 pre-orders.
With the PS4 price set at £349, £80 cheaper than the £429 Xbox One price, Sony announced in August that the console had already received more than one million global pre-orders, a figure that is expected to increase dramatically ahead of the gamers’ imminent arrival.
