Google Nexus 5 Launch Event: October 15 unveiling tipped

With Google Nexus 5 rumours hitting fever point, new reports have suggested that a Google Nexus 5 launch event will be held next week.

While the Google Nexus 4 follow-on has long been mooted to be on the cards, confirmation of exactly when the Samsung Galaxy S4 rivalling smartphone will be unveiled is still to be detailed, with latest rumours hinting at an imminent October 15 announcement.

Although Google has yet to issue official invites any upcoming launch, developers attending the recent Google Launchpad conference have claimed that word of an October 15 Google Nexus 5 launch event has been overheard, with the phone to land alongside the new Android 4.4 KitKat OS.

While still very much unofficial, the October 15 Google Nexus 5 launch event claims fit with further reports that the handset would be unveiled in the coming weeks before going on sale later this month.

According to recent Google Nexus 5 rumours, the eagerly awaited phone will be something of a powerhouse, with a 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor tipped for inclusion alongside 2GB of RAM and the aforementioned Android 4.4 operating system.

Further leaked Google Nexus 5 specs have seen an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera mooted alongside a secondary, 1.6-megapixel snapper up front. With 16GB and 32GB storage options expected, the LG G2 and iPhone 5S competitor will also sport a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display, 3000mAh Lithium-Ion battery and wireless charging options alongside the usual Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and 4G connectivity options.

Like its predecessor, the Google Nexus 5 looks set to pair a high-end array of innards alongside a budget, wallet-friendly price tag.

Based on recent leaks, the Google Nexus 5 price will be roughly “half the price” of the latest flagship Apple handset, with the 16GB and 32GB storage options tipped to set wannabe owners back just $299 (£186) and $399 (£248) respectively.
