Apple iPad updates incoming

The next-generation iPad tablets will be launched at an Apple media event on October 22, according to reports on Tuesday.

The All Things D blog, which has an excellent track record in this area in particular, has been informed by those sources 'familiar with Apple's plans' that the date has been set.

Expected to make an appearance at the long-awaited event will be a brand new, thinner, lighter and more powerful iPad 5 tablet. That slate is likely to feature the new 64-bit A7 processor and an improved camera, according to All Things D's information.

Also likely to how up on stage is the second-generation iPad mini 2. Most of the speculation surrounding that device has focussed on the possibility of a Retina Display upgrade. That remains unclear, as does the prospect of there Touch ID fingerprint sensors which arrived on the iPhone 5S.

The new Mac Pro is also likely to be revisited with a launch date promised for 'Fall 2013,' while we're also likely to get a look at the completed Mac OS X Mavericks operating system.

The location for the event is uncertain at present. The iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were unveiled at Apple's intimate town hall-style arena on its Infinite Loop campus in Cupertino, so it'd make sense for the company to keep this launch on home turf also.

We'll let you know as soon as there's official confirmation, in the form of an Apple media invite, but in the meantime let us know your wants for the iPad mini 2 and the iPad 5.
