An analyst currently doing the tour of Apple supply chains has received word the iPhone 6 will feature a larger screen when it is released next year.
Brian White of Cantor Fitzgerald (previously of Topeka Capital), a notorious Apple tipster, has said he is “confident” the iPhone 6 will pack a larger screen than the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C.
Supporting previous rumours that the iPhone 6 will feature a 4.7-inch screen, White suggests the screen size will lie around the 5-inch marker.
White is currently touring tech supply chain vendors in China who work with Apple, several of which indicated that a larger iPhone is on the cards for 2014.
“Given today’s meeting, we are confident that a larger iPhone (approximately five inches) will become a reality in 2014”, said White.
Apple has already enlarged the original iPhone screen from 3.5- to 4-inches between the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.
However, it seems more and more likely Apple will be increasing the screen for the iPhone 6 to around 5-inches. This was originally suggested by Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities, who is notoriously well connected.
Kuo did suggest that Apple is unlikely to go any larger than 5-inches due to the company’s “unwavering principle of one hand use.”
Despite Apple’s love of everything under 4-inches, other companies like Samsung, Huawei and Sony have opted to develop devices with large “phablet” displays.
The recently released Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has a 5.7-inch display and the Samsung Galaxy Mega has a whopping 6.3-inch screen.
At 6.1-inches, the Huawei Ascend Mate comes in just below the Galaxy Mega, while the Sony Xperia Z Ultra beats them all at 6.4-inches.
White’s sources also gave hints as to how the Apple iWatch will function, suggesting that the device will behave as a “multi-purpose gateway” for controlling a connected home.
Tipped to launch sometime in 2014, the iWatch will be able to control lights, audio and video equipment as well as being an iPhone accessory.
