Samsung Galaxy J - big in Japan
Samsung has announced the Samsung Galaxy J, a new large-screen device aimed at the Japanese market.
The new smartphone was announced at an event held by Japanese network DoCoMo, and it would seem that the J stands for Japan. Don't expect to see it making its way west any time soon.
We hope we're wrong on that point though, as the Samsung Galaxy J appears to be a highly capable device. It's something of a mish-mash of previous Galaxy handsets, with a similar form factor to the Samsung Galaxy S4, but cutting edge internals equivalent to the recent Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
To that end it comes with a similar 5-inch 1080p Super AMOLED display to the Samsung Galaxy S4, but like the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 it runs on a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU clocked at 2.3GHz and backed by 3GB of RAM.
It also features a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 2,600mAh battery, and the usual connectivity gubbins such as NFC and LTE.
Externally, despite its Galaxy S4 dimensions, the Samsung Galaxy J looks a lot more like the Galaxy Note 3. It's got the same square edges and abruptly rounded corners as the larger device.
The Samsung Galaxy J will hit Japanese shops later this month in three bright colours - Coral Pink, Satin White and Lapis Blue.
Earlier in the week Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy Round for the Korean market, which comes with an innovative curved screen and accompanying 'Round Interaction' interface elements.
Add in rumours that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will be brought forward to January, and it seems as if the company is intent on continuing its attempts to flood the market with Galaxy phones.
