The rear cover of the forthcoming iPad 5 appears to have been analysed in some depth in a recent video.
Apple's next full-sized tablet should be making an appearance over the coming weeks, so we've already seen a number of component leaks - chiefly the rear cover.
However, this latest video is notable for running through some of the iPad 5's likely measurements. It's noted that the rear panel is 239.2 x 169.5mm, which compares favourably to the 241.2 x 185.7mm equivalent component on the iPad 4.
As those dimensions suggest, the iPad 5 will be proportionally narrower than the iPad 4, reflecting its shift to the same design template as the iPad mini. Expect super skinny side bezels when we finally catch a glimpse of the front of the device.
The iPad 5 rear panel is also just 7.2mm thick, according to the report. That's more than 2mm thinner than the iPad 4 rear panel, and the same thickness as the iPad mini overall. The display shouldn't add significantly to the iPad 5's thickness, either, so we know it's going to be a seriously slim 9.7-inch tablet.
As you might expect, the iPad 5's rear panel is shown to be a fair bit lighter than the iPad 4's. The final device should be much less of a pain to hold over prolonged periods.
Besides these basic dimensions, the video also details a couple of interesting design elements. The volume button opening reveals two separate controls rather than the iPad 4's single rocker, while there's a new machined hole on the top-rear of the panel.
Reports suggest that Apple will officially reveal the iPad 5, alongside the iPad mini 2, at a launch event on October 15.
