LG is expected to launch the LG G Flex in November, complete with a curved display.
Although the plans are yet finalised, the LG G Flex has been pencilled in for a November launch with LG debuting its first curved display smartphone.
According to information and an image obtained by CNET, LG is currently preparing to launch the LG G Flex with a curved display, using the company’s plastic OLED screen technology.
As seen in the obtained sketch above, the LG G Flex display will be set in a curved position similar to the LG Curved OLED TVs, rather than being able to bend and flex.
Aiming to comfortably curve around your face, it could increase call quality on the smartphone, but we’re not sure what it would be like to use other features on.
Like the LG Curved OLED TVs, the concave arc of the LG G Flex wouldn’t be so severe it looks odd, but rather a shallow arch.
In May, LG issued a press release announcing it was developing a “unbreakable and flexible 5-inch plastic OLED panel” for smartphones.
“For the first time to the public, the company will unveil an unbreakable and flexible 5-inch plastic OLED panel for mobile devices,” read the official LG statement. “The development comes at a crucial time when smart devices are being used more than ever and at increased risk for damage from drops, hits, and other accidents.”
Samsung is also reportedly preparing a limited edition Samsung Galaxy Note 3 with a flexible display. It’s unknown whether it’ll be a curved affair or just introduce an unbreakable display into the existing Galaxy Note 3 design.
The limited edition Galaxy Note 3 could be marketed as the Galaxy Note 3 Active, coming complete with waterproof and dustproof accreditation.
