An image of three battery packs purportedly belonging to the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 has been leaked to Chinese social media.
The picture turned up on Weibo, showing off 2600mAh capacity units, consolidating previous rumours that the S6 would carry a battery of that capacity.
The image was allegedly shot inside a Chinese battery factory that supplies Samsung.
What’s interesting is that the battery model number can clearly be read as ‘EB-BG925ABE’.
Samsung’s Galaxy S5 had a model number of SM-900. The battery, meanwhile, has a model number ‘EB-BG900BBC’.
When you consider that the Galaxy S6 Edge model number is tipped to be SM-925X, it’s likely these batteries belong to the S6 series.

Interestingly, the Samsung Galaxy S5 had a slightly bigger 2800mAh battery, so this news seems to point at Samsung downgrading battery capacity for the successor model.
That’s likely because Samsung wants to shave off precious millimetres on its flagship handset, to compete with the growing host of razor-thin smartphones.
That doesn’t necessarily mean the Galaxy S6 will have worse battery life, mind. Lots of factors go into how long a smartphone can last on a single charge.
For starters, the Galaxy S6 is expected to run off Samsung’s own 14nm chipset. That’s a much more power-efficient manufacturing process.
It’s also designed specifically for Samsung phones, so it will be optimised to run with the company’s Android ROM.
The device will also run off Android 5.0 Lollipop, which brings its own battery life optimisations.
