Galaxy Round

Samsung may be preparing a sequel to its curved-screened Galaxy Round handset, new reports have claimed.

According to a tweet from would-be Evleaks successor @upleaks, Samsung is working on a new handset with the model number SM-G930.

Following the revelation, PhoneArena has done a bit of speculative model number mathematics and deduced the new handset could well be a new version of the Galaxy Round.

Basically - and bear with us here - the original Galaxy Round (SM-G910) had an model number ten points higher than the Galaxy S5 (SM-G900). With the Galaxy S6 expected to boast the model number SM-G920, that means SM-G930 would surely be another Galaxy Round, right?

It all seems very speculative right now, but another Galaxy Round release would be significant given the recent launch of the LG G Flex 2.

The original Round, launched in 2014 with a 5.7-inch display, utilises a different curvature to the G Flex series. Samsung’s curves upwards at the sides of the handset, while LG’s offering curves at the top and bottom.

Early impressions suggest the LG G Flex 2 is a vastly improved device compared with the original. Could Samsung find the formula second time around too?

If Samsung really is revisiting this device, the next question is whether we could see it at the forthcoming Mobile World Congress expo.

The company is already expected to launch the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, so will it be announcing a trio of smartphones on March 1? Or are today’s reports reaching a little with the numbers game?

It’s only a week or so until we find out…
