Pebble has announced that its smartwatch now has full Android Wear app compatibility.

Back in mid-December we reported that the Pebble had gained the ability to receive and act upon Android notifications, but only as part of a public beta.

Now the company has revealed that the feature has been finalised and rolled out properly over on the official Pebble blog.

Once updated, your Pebble watch will essentially be able to do whatever an Android Wear watch can do. This includes user-defined responses, which allow you to set-up pre-made stock responses to communication apps.

The examples given are replying to a Hangouts message with an emoji, and approving a money request through Square Cash.

All you need to do to make use of this new functionality is download the latest Pebble app from the Google Play Store (v.2.3.0) and update your Pebble watch to the latest firmware (v.2.9).

Android developers don't need to do anything extra in order to ensure compatibility - if it works with Android Wear, it works with Pebble.

It's an extremely handy feature to have, given the dominance of Android Wear in the smartwatch market at the moment, although overall sales have been modest. There's also the small matter of the Apple Watch, which is due for release over the coming months.
