Dropbox has updated its iOS app with a hugely anticipated feature - the ability to save files directly to the cloud storage service.
One of many welcome new features of iOS 8 when it launched in September was the ability for third party apps to claim a place in Apple's default sharing system, using Action extensions.
This opened up the potential for an almost Android-like integration of rival services - something many thought they'd never see.
It's taken almost five months, but Dropbox has now capitalised on this Action extension feature.
As the App Store blurb points out, version 3.7 of Dropbox for iOS lets you "save files straight to Dropbox from your favourite apps."

This means that you can bring up the sharing menu within the Photos app, for example, and 'Save to Dropbox' will now be an option alongside the usual options (provided you have the app installed, of course). It works with Notes, too.
While that appears to be a limited selection of supported applications right now, they are extremely handy. Also, with the ongoing popularity of Dropbox, you can bet that more apps will move to support the new feature, letting you save more content straight to Dropbox from your iPhone or iPad.
The new version of the Dropbox app is available to download for free from the App Store now.
