The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 would have been ‘too hard and cold’ had it featured a fully metal design, the manufacturer has claimed.
With Samsung having responded to criticisms of cheap build qualities in handsets such as the Note 3 and Galaxy S5, the Note 4 has been bestowed with a metal framed finish which helps detract from the leather-effect plastic rear.
According to the Korean manufacturer, however, had the Note 4 echoed the likes of the iPhone 6 or HTC One M8 is adopting a completely metal finish, the handset would have been less, not more aesthetically pleasing.
“The designers have been aware of people’s desire for a metal frame. However, using metal material just for the sake of using it didn’t make much sense,” an official Samsung spokesperson said via the company’s blog.
They added: “The designers wanted the Galaxy Note 4 to project a sense of modern edginess; therefore they decided to go with the metal frame with the diamond cutting, which was a first for the Galaxy Note series.
“One thing the designers did not want to do was to use metal and give out the sense that the device is too hard and cold.”
As well as suggesting the metallic oversight gives the phone a softer, more user-friendly finish, Samsung has revealed a more important benefit of the soft-touch rear.
“The soft cover allows the user to change batteries, which is also a big part of the use experience of the Galaxy Note 4.”
The Note 4’s design echoes that introduced on the smaller, iPhone 6 rivalling Samsung Galaxy Alpha.
