If you just can’t get enough of the blossoming wearables space take note, Asus has hinted that its first smartwatch, the Asus ZenWatch, could launch as early as next week.
With the Taiwanese manufacturer having formally unveiled the ZenWatch back at IFA last month, it now appears that the Android Wear timepiece could be heading for an October 28 launch. That’s according to a newly issued invite from the manufacturer promising and event on that date which will “unlock the future”.
Although the manufacturer has yet to formally detail October 28 as the ZenWatch’s time to head to retailers’ shelves, the company has accompanied the invite with a teasing image of the LG G Watch rival.
As well as the ZenWatch, Asus has hinted that a refreshed ZenFone could also be on the cards.
With the launch event to be held in the company’s native Asia, there is currently no word on potential UK release plans.
Earlier this week it emerged that the ZenWatch will be the first Android Wear device to feature a custom UI overlay.
With Google having defended the to-date stock Android Wear OS on the likes of the Moto 360 and Samsung Gear Live, Hiroshi Lockheimer, Google’s VP of engineering, making the ZenWatch UI announcement, stated: “It’s not some Google-way-or-the-highway kind of thing.”
The ZenWatch features a 1.63-inch square display which, like many of its rivals, offers a 320 x 320 pixel resolution. The wearable adds a curved glass front, 512MB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and stylish leather strap.
