Apple struggling to meet iPhone 6 and 6 Plus demand

Apple says its struggling to meet demand for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The fruity firm’s CEO, Tim Cook, revealed during Apple’s Q4 earnings call that handset supply had been inadequate thus far.

Cook said the company was ‘not close’ to manufacturing enough handsets to compensate for the staggering demand.

Even now, over a month since the launch of the smartphones, shipping times are surprisingly high.

If you want an iPhone 6 from Apple’s UK online store, you’re looking at a 7-10 day wait.

Higher still are iPhone 6 Plus shipping times, currently set in the UK at 3-4 weeks.

Earlier this month, reports from the WSJ said Apple was shifting manufacturing efforts from a 12.9-inch iPad to focus on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus production.

Last night’s earnings call revealed some seriously impressive stats from Apple’s last quarter.

The firm revealed it had sold 39 million iPhone handsets up until the end of September – that’s including just one week of iPhone 6 sales.

“Our fiscal 2014 was one for the record books, including the biggest iPhone launch ever with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus,” Cook revealed.

This amounted to net profit of around $8.5 billion (roughly £5.2bn), with revenue set at a huge $42.2 billion (£26.1bn).

“We are also incredibly excited about the Apple Watch and other great products and services in the pipeline for 2015.”
