The Raspberry Pi will soon have its own dedicated touchscreen display accessory.
Eben Upton, the mind behind the microcomputer and CEO of Raspberry Pi, has revealed that the display panels will start shipping very soon.
“This is our first display panel that we’re going to be hopefully getting out of the door before the end of the year or early next,” said Upton.
“The whole time we’ve been doing Raspberry Pi we’ve been saying yeah the display accessory is coming, yeah the display accessory is coming. The display accessory is finally coming.”
Upton made the announcement at TechCrunch’s Disrupt event here in London, unveiling the screen publicly on stage.
The Pi screen is a 7-inch VGA touch-friendly display that combines with the microcomputer to make ‘a very thick tablet.’
The firm has already managed to flog somewhere north of 4 million computers so far. The latest in the line-up is the Raspberry Pi B , bringing some minor hardware upgrades to the device earlier this year.
Upton created the Pi in hopes of helping young people learn to program, with the B computer retailing at a budget cost of just £25.
