The new A8X processor within the iPad Air 2 boasts three cores running at 1.5GHz according to an alleged benchmarking test for Apple’s new flagship tablet.
According to the iphonebenchmark.net website, which lists the CPU scores of the respective iOS devices, the iPad Air 2 also has 2GB of RAM.
If true, this would make the new tablet the first device ever to rock more than 1GB of RAM, which could go a long way towards unlocking more of the potential within the 64-bit processor.
The recently revealed iPhone 6 range boasts an A8 processor with a dual-core and a single GB of RAM, with the later causing some consternation among Apple fans hoping for a memory hop within the new smartphones.
According to Apple Insider , reporting on the alleged findings, the figures are reached using an old benchmarking platform which may not show the iPad Air 2’s true potential.
Of course, Apple never reveals hardware specifics, unlike other manufacturers who list processing and memory specs in full.
The company doesn’t deal in specifics other than to boast about how much faster and more powerful the new generation devices are compared to others in the range.
In this case, it claims the A8X is 40 per cent faster with 2.5x faster graphics than the A7 chip within last year’s model.
