Amazon Fire TV now available in UK

The Amazon Fire TV media streaming box is now available to purchase in the UK.

Amazon has confirmed that its Fire TV set top box has started shipping in the UK from today after a period of being listed as 'coming soon.'

Amazon Fire TV offers a way to stream a number of popular TV catch-up services and streaming services, including BBC iPlayer, BBC News, BBC Sport, Netflix, Spotify, Demand 5, and Sky News.

It also, naturally, offers access to Amazon's own vast library of streamable media, including movies and TV box sets. These are available to rent or purchase, and you can sign up to Amazon's unlimited streaming option, Prime Instant Video.

The Amazon Fire TV box also doubles as an affordable games console, as it offers access to all of the games on the Amazon Appstore - some of which have been specifically created for the machine. There's even a dedicated Xbox One-like game controller available to purchase.

Otherwise, the Amazon Fire TV ships with its own compact remote control, which contains a mic for voice control. No more tapping out film names on a painfully slow text entry system - at least, not in Amazon's own media search service.

Amazon Fire TV is available to buy through Amazon now for £79. The optional Amazon Fire Game Controller costs an additional £34.99.
