GTA 5 coming to PC this autumn, says Nvidia

GTA 5 could be coming to PC this autumn after all, tipped by Nvidia during its Q2 2014 earnings call.

Despite Rockstar Games stating it was focusing solely on the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms, Nvidia has seemingly revealed that a PC version of GTA 5 is being developed as well.

Due to launch in the “fall”, the GTA 5 PC version may well launch a few weeks after the Xbox 360 and PS3 editions.

Nvidia revealed the news during its Q2 2014 earnings call with its investors. The hardware developer was discussing the decline of the PC market, dropping in the GTA 5 comment near the end.

“The PC market is evolving as entry level laptops face pressure from tablets. Yet sales of speciality PCs like gaming systems and work stations continue to grow,” said Chris Evenden, Nvidia’s senior director of investor relations. “The disparity reflects how consumers use these different classes of PCs. Many consumers look for PC as a general purpose device they can use for browsing, email, social media and video. But much of this can be better served by a tablet.”

Rockstar usually release a PC edition of its GTA games around six months after the console versions, but if Nvidia is correct the GTA 5 PC port won’t take that long to hit shelves.

“In contrast, gamers are preparing their systems for a strong roster of games coming this fall, including blockbuster franchises, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Assassin’s Creed 4.”

A GTA 5 PC edition was tipped by a Rockstar Leeds job listing, which stated the company was “looking for a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform.”

“Working together with the other Rockstar studios, you will be responsible for maintaining the studio’s uncompromising quality bar, delivering the highest quality PC experience possible,” the job listing read.

However, Rockstar Games officially stated that a PC edition was not currently being developed during a GTA 5 Asked and Answered session. The developer said that a GTA 5 release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One is still in the wind.

“The only versions of the game that we have announced are for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 which are set for a September 17 worldwide release. We don’t have anything to share about the possibility of a next-gen or a PC platform release at this time and we are completely focused on delivering the best possible experience for the consoles people have right now.”
