Currently available only in the US, the new Google Nexus 7 has been designed by Google and manufactured in partnership with Asus. A wallet friendly powerhouse of the sub-sized tablet scene, the Google Nexus 7 UK release date has been set for August 28 priced from £199.

A direct replacement to last year’s hugely successful original Nexus 7, n announcing the company’s second-generation tablet, Hugo Berra, Google Vice President of Android Product Management stated: “We are staying focused on exactly the same things that made the original Nexus 7 so successful: portability, performance and of course the power of Google.”

Running a 1.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, the new model is 80 per cent faster than the original Nexus 7.

Boasting 2GB of RAM and the option of 16GB or 32GB storage capacities, the new Google Nexus 7 specs sheet is further enhanced by the usual Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC and 4G connectivity options. It has a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera and a 1.2-megapixel at the front.

Although making the jump to a 1920 x 1200 pixel Full HD display with a 323 pixels-per-inch image density, the Google tablet has managed to slot in a further hour’s staying power, taking its strong battery life into the realms of the 10 hour mark.
