Google Play event set for October 24, no Google Nexus 5 expected

Despite Google issuing invites to an October 22 Google Play event, the search giant has suggested the meeting will not see the Google Nexus 5 unveiled.

With the Google Nexus 5 widely expected to enter the realms of reality later this month, following the arrival of the first Google Play event invites last night, speculation was rife that the Google Nexus 4 follow-on could be just days away from unveiling.

Now, however, a number of reports have cited the Nexus 7 manufacturer as reporting that the New York based event next Thursday will not see any new hardware introduced, with the event instead set to act as nothing more than a meet-and-greet and look at the company’s latest digital store options.

With the invites stating simply “Join us for a night out with Google Play,” the search giant has stated that the event will look at “music, movies and games.”

Although a Google Nexus 5 release date might not be announced , it is expected that Google Play event will take a more detailed look at the upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat operating system.

Earlier this week a new look Google Play Store leaked, with the revised in-store setup set to be introduced alongside the upcoming software update.

The Google Nexus 5 is widely expected to be a direct challenger to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5S when launched later this month. Earlier this week the upcoming handset leaked on the Google Play Store alongside a $349 price tag.

Recent Google Nexus 5 rumours have suggested that the phone will line up with a 2.3GHz quad-core processor in tow alongside an 8-megapixel rear-mounted camera, a 5-inch 1080p Full HD display and a 3000mAh Lithium-Polymer battery.
