Grand Theft Auto 5 sales reach record breaking 3 million mark in UK

Grand Theft Auto 5 has become the fastest selling game in the UK ever with 3 million copies flying off shelves in just 4 weeks.

Figures taken from GfK Chart-Track are reported to show that having already beaten sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, the title should overtake FIFA 13 sales in the next few days meaning it's also on track to becoming the biggest selling game of all time too.

The smash hit has been dominating the UK gaming charts since its release in September. Despite getting knocked off No.1 by FIFA 14 when it was launched on 27 September, it's reclaimed the top spot after just two weeks after having sold more than 100,000 units in just seven days.

It's not all been plain sailing for GTA 5. The title has faced criticism since its release due to continuing issues with the game.

Rockstar is due to rollout a new update for the software this week in order to address the problems. It will be the fourth update for the game.

The developer is offering a range of in-game monetary compensation packages for players affected by issues including vehicle loss.

“Given some of the recent technical issues during these first days of GTA Online, and now that things are starting to look much smoother (touch wood!), we are planning to provide a special stimulus package for all who have played or will play Grand Theft Auto Online this month,” GTA announced in a recent statement.

“We will be dropping a cool half a million GTA$ in the GTA Online bank accounts of all players this month, starting as early as next week.”
