iPad 5 to have iPhone 5S Touch ID fingerprint scanner?

The iPad 5 could pack the Touch ID fingerprint sensor found in the iPhone 5, teased in a new image of Apple upcoming tablet.

One of the main differentiators of the iPhone 5S from its siblings the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5, Apple could be bringing the Touch ID technology to its next full-sized tablet.

An image from a Chinese source supposedly shows an iPad 5 complete with the Touch ID fingerprint sensor fitted into the home button.

As with the iPhone 5S, this particular iPad 5 has a distinct ring around the outside of the home button, and it is more recessed than any of its predecessors.

However, the picture is blurred and only shows of the corner of the supposed iPad 5, so its unsure whether this will be a feature of the final product.

The iPad mini 2 was also snapped touting a Touch ID sensor and the iPhone 5S’ gold hue at the end of September.

Apple could potentially launch both the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 with the Touch ID sensor, which allows you to unlock the device with your fingerprint and make secure purchases via the iTunes Store.

iPad 5 Rumours

The iPad 5 should retain the 9.7-inch Retina display of the iPad 4, but introduce a less angular, brushed metal backed design and slimmer bezels to pull it into line with the iPad mini.

The Touch ID sensor isn’t the only iPhone 5S feature expected to make it into the iPad 5, as the tablet is tipped to have the same 64-bit A7 processor.

Along with a thinner and lighter form factor, the iPad 5 will have iPad mini mirroring dual speaker grilles at the bottom, and a lightening connector.

The iPad 5 is tipped to launch alongside the iPad mini 2 at a dedicated event on October 22. We’re all waiting to see if the invitations arrive today bearing the launch event’s announcement.
