Pebble has finally sold its millionth smartwatch, with the seven-figure shipment taking place on December 31.
That’s a huge gain on the firm’s March sales report, which revealed a far more meagre 400,000 units sold.
Pebble launched its first smartwatch back in 2013, with the majority of initial funding provided by Kickstarter backers.
The news comes courtesy of Pebble’s CEO Eric Migicovsky, speaking in an exclusive interview with The Verge.
According to the interview, Migicovsky ‘plans to carry [Pebble’s] momentum’ throughout the year.
This will be in the form of new product launches, as well as a new software platform, reportedly ‘unlike anything else used on smartwatches to date.’
“We’ve found a new framework to use as an interaction model on the watch,” said Migicovsky.
“It doesn’t look like what we have today, and it doesn’t look like what’s on your smartphone.”

Foremost amongst Pebble’s current software rivals is Google’s Android Wear, which is a mainstay amongst most contemporary smartwatches.
Samsung is also a contender for the smartwatch software crown, having also released a handful of wearables touting its own Tizen OS.
