Apple could be planning to launch its own search engine, an official job listing has suggested.
The ad, which is seeking an Engineering Project Manager for a project dubbed ‘Apple Search’, has been spotted on the company’s website, opening a whole can of worms of potential questions.
The role, which will revolve around “a search platform supporting hundreds of millions of users” has sparked much speculation of Apple taking the fight to its longstanding rival, Google.
Although the exact ins and outs of the ‘Apple Search’ project are still surrounded in much mystery, the role will reportedly focus on “driving a vast range of projects including deployments, upgrades and implementation of new environments”
According to the application: “Apple seeks a technical, driven and creative programme manager to manage backend operations projects for a search platform supporting hundreds of millions of users,” the job description reads.
It adds: “Play a part in revolutionising how people use their computers and mobile devices.
“Manage operational projects that support groundbreaking technology and the most scalable big-data systems in existence.”
While this is far from confirmation that Apple will enter the Google dominated search market, this latest listing, spotted by CultofMac, has added serious backing to claims analysts have been making for a number of years.

Back in 2010 Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster suggested there was a “70 per cent chance” of Apple entering the search engine space.
Adding further fuel to the fire, earlier this week Apple owned camera cars were spotted prowling the streets of San Francisco hinting that a potential Google Street View rival is in the works.
