The Xbox One vs PS4 battle has softened slightly as Xbox maker Microsoft issues an official note of congratulations to Sony over the PS4 launch.
With the PS4 release date having seen the eagerly awaited console launch in the US today ahead of a UK rollout later this month, Microsoft has congratulated Sony on its next-gen efforts.
“Congratulations on your launch, Sony,” the simple not from Microsoft read ahead of the Xbox logo branding that has become so familiar in the run up to the company’s own next-gen console launch.
While some have suggested that the comment is a snide jibe at its closest rival, others have claimed that Microsoft’s acknowledgement of a competitor helping forward on the overall gaming market is a classy move from the Redmond-based manufacturer.
The official comment comes after Microsoft Studios’ General Manager Phil Spencer last night issues his own congratulations to the Sony team.
“Congrats to the PS4 team @PlayStation, @amboyes, @CEOJackTretton, @yosp on the launch of the PS4,” Spencer declared via his official Twitter feed.
Although the PS4 is now available in the US, a UK PS4 release date will not be held until November 29. Beating the Sony console to British shores, an Xbox One release date has been confirmed for November 22, a date now less than a week away.
While the Xbox One will hit the UK before its bitter rival, it will have a heavier effect on gamers’ wallets. Where the Xbox One price has been set at £429, the PS4 price is a full £80 cheaper at £349.
