With the iPad mini 2 with Retina display having gone on sale earlier this morning, Apple has revealed that it is “working hard” to meet demand for the tablet.
With the iPad mini 2 release date having been struck by stock shortages, landing almost two weeks after the full-sized iPad Air, the Cupertino-based company has now suggested that it is trying its best to keep up with demand for its new tablets.
“We think customers will love both of these thin, light, powerful new iPads, and we’re working hard to get as many as we can in the hands of our customers,” Apple’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller has stated.
Looking back at the recent iPad Air release he added: “The response to iPad Air has been incredible, and we’re excited for customers to experience the new iPad mini with Retina display.”
Officially unveiled last month, the iPad mini 2 is a direct follow-on to Apple’s first 7-inch tablet, adding a Retina display alongside the iPhone 5S introduced 64-bit A7 processor.
With the iPad mini 2 available in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi plus cellular forms, Apple has this year added a 128GB storage capacity option to the usual 16GB, 32GB and 64GB capacity options. iPad mini 2 prices start at £319 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model, rising to a hefty £659 for the 128GB Wi-Fi plus 3G model.
Although the iPad mini 2 is now on sale in the UK, the tablet is still short on numbers. Available through the online Apple Store or through reserve and collect at the manufacturer’s physical outlets, certain models are already facing deliver waits of “5-10 business days.”
