Adidas miCoach Smart Ball
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2014 FIFA World Cup, Adidas has confirmed that an Adidas miCoach Smart Ball release date is being pencilled in for June 1 next year.
With the Adidas miCoach Smart Ball having been showcased earlier this year as a Bluetooth enabled, app-connected football which is filled with a range of pressure sensors that can track how it is kicked, the sporting giant has now revealed that the futuristic footie will hit retailers in less than seven months’ time.
Although an Adidas miCoach Smart Ball release date has now been addressed, the company is still remaining coy on how much the ball will set wannabe owners back.
“I don’t have and wouldn’t want to release a firmed up price at the moment but we are targeting June 1 next year for retail,” Tony Hope, Senior Product Developer with Adidas told TrustedReviews in an exclusive interview.
Capable of recording individual kicks, the Smart Ball can relay data on how hard it has been struck, offer visual flight trajectories and even show impact points via a smartphone app.
What’s more, this data can then be used to help train players, showing how they need to alter their kicking styles in order to address skills such as curling free kicks or generating more power to their shots. The Adidas miCoach Smart Ball features wireless charging capabilities and will come bundled with a charging dock.
Speaking with TrustedReviews back in May, Christian DiBenedetto, Adidas’s Senior Innovation Director stated: “The Adidas miCoach Smartball is for the individual, it is a consumer targeted product, not a team targeted product. What we really wanted was to give everybody the chance to become the best kicker on the team.”
He added: “This ball allows players to have flare, and what’s more, you can show your flare in your stats. It’s not just about how hard you can kick the ball, it’s about the skill.”
