The heavily rumoured Apple iWatch seems to be edging closer to reality, with new iWatch trademarks filed by the iPad mini maker surfacing in Mexico and Taiwan.
With Apple iWatch rumours kicking back into overdrive yesterday as it emerged Apple had trademarked the name of its mooted smartwatch offering in Japan, further trademark filings have now surfaced, with the Cupertino based company having been found to have secured the name for the wrist-worn gadget in a number of new markets.
With both the Mexico and Taiwan Apple iWatch trademark filings having been made on June 3, the application with Mexico’s Institute of Industrial Property has seen Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop address in California listed, tying the iPhone 5 manufacturer to the upcoming device.
Although the trademark applications have offered no insight into the features and function of the repeatedly tipped smartphone compatible smartwatch, the global brand security Apple appears to be seeking for the device suggests the Pebble rival could land in the near future.
Early last month the first reports of potential Apple iWatch trademark filings started to do the rounds, with Russia the unlikely location for the first claimed application.
Reports at the time stated: “Tonight newspaper Izvestia has heard sensational news: the company Apple has filed with Rospatent an application for registration of the trademark iWatch. We think we do not even need to explain what this might mean.”
Apple iWatch Rumours
With Apple iWatch rumours having been doing the rounds for a number of months, latest reports have suggested that an iWatch release date could be held as early as this winter. While further reports have pointed to an early 2014 launch, general opinion is that Apple will launch its eagerly awaited wearable within a matter of months.
With an number of rival manufacturers, including Samsung and LG having already confirmed their plans to launch wearable tech, Apple’s iWatch has been claimed to run a 1.5-inch square touchscreen display, similar to that on recent iPod Nano offerings.
Further Apple iWatch rumours have suggested the device will sport a curved battery for a more ergonomic fit. Recent patent filings stated: “a curve is formed at one end of the battery cell during the manufacturing process” or could link together “at two ends”.
With Apple reportedly putting its full force behind its first wearable gadget, industry analysts recently stated the company had put a 100 strong team on the project made up of “managers, members of the marketing group, and software and hardware engineers who previously worked on the iPhone and iPad.”
