Sony will formally unveil the PS4 release date during Gamescom 2013, latest reports have suggested, with the announcement tipped for an August 21 press conference.
While Sony has confirmed its Xbox One rival will hit retailers during the “2013 holiday season,” the Japanese gaming giant has yet to formally reveal an exact PS4 release date. That could all change on August 21, however, with claimed “sources close to Sony” suggesting that will be when the company makes its announcement.
According to the latest reports, which we advise are taken with a considerable pinch of salt, German gaming outlets have started pointing towards a Gamescom 2013 confirmation of the eagerly awaited PS4 release date.
While some might question the German source of the latest reports, the rumours fit somewhat with Gamescom being a German based gaming exposition. Gamescom 2013 is to be held in Cologne between August 21 and 25, with the opening day exclusive to the media.
Last month a selection of retailers hinted at a potential November 13 PS4 release date, with Sony later branding these reports as “pure speculation.”
Although Sony has failed to confirm the PS4 release date just yet, the company has revealed that the next-gen console’s arrival will not see price cuts introduced to its predecessor, the hugely successful
During E3 last month, both Sony and Microsoft announced their respective PS4 and Xbox One prices, with the PS3 replacement to line up £80 cheaper than its lead rival. The PS4 price has been set at £349.
