With the arrival of the new Chromebook Pixel laptop on Tuesday, Google followed Apple into exciting new world of USB Type-C connectivity.
The 2015 model of the top-end Chromebook features a USB-C charging port as well as two conventional USB ports.
However, there’s more. Google is also selling USB-C accessories on its new Google Store and has strongly hinted the next round of Nexus smartphones and tablets will introduce the standard since.
“The Pixel is one of the first products to launch with this new standard, with more Chromebooks and Android devices following suit soon.” Google says in its Chromebook Pixel press release (via Android Police).
Among the accessories Google is already selling is a £40 fixed charger, a £9 Type C to Standard-A plug cable, a £9 Type-C to Standard-A adapter, a £25 USB Type-C to DisplayPort Cable and a £25 Type C to HDMI adapter.
Because Type-C is industry standard, all of these accessories will play nice with other products, including the new Apple MacBook.

The means users will just be able to pick up a £9 adapter from Google in order to continue using their existing USB devices rather than fork out for Apple’s far more expensive £65 multi-port solution.
With this week’s news it seems the days of fiddling around trying to slot USB cables into ports appear to be numbered.
