Samsung is reportedly working on an Exynos chip that touts Cat. 10 LTE, with a view to include it in the Galaxy S6.
The current top-tier LTE modem is Cat. 6, which caps out at about 300Mbps – should your data provider be so generous.
Samsung’s tri-band Cat. 10 LTE however, would boast a theoretical cap of 450Mbps, which is far nippier than current 4G fare.
Qualcomm has already announced its own Cat. 10 chip modem – the Gobi 9x45 – although it’s a little too far off to debut in next year’s Snapdragon 810.
Recent rumours have pointed to Samsung using its own Exynos chips in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 flagship.
It’s also expected that Samsung will launch a Snapdragon-powered handset alongside the Exynos variant too, but recent rumours of Snapdragon 810 delays could point to an Exynos chip at launch.
We’re expecting Samsung’s next flagship early next year, although the South Korean firm is keeping expectedly quiet for now.
Recent benchmark leaks did give us a possible sneak peek into the S6 spec sheet however.
The purported innards read as follows: An Exynos 7420 chip, a 5.5-inch display with a 1440 x 2560 resolution, 32GB of storage, 3GB of RAM, and a 20-megapixel camera.
Samsung is currently tipped to be developing the handset under a ‘Project Zero’ codename, and may borrow design features from other handsets – the Alpha’s metal trim, or the Note Edge’s wrap-around display, for instance.
